Garth Davis is an Australian film and television director known for his critically acclaimed movies. His debut feature film "Lion" (2016), based on a true story, stars Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman and received six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.
Davis also directed the historical drama mini-series "Top of the Lake" (2013) and its sequel "Top of the Lake: China Girl" (2017), both of which received widespread critical acclaim.
In 2018, Davis directed the biblical drama film "Mary Magdalene" starring Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix. However, the film received mixed reviews and a lukewarm response at the box office.
Currently, Davis is working on a biopic titled "A Million Little Pieces" based on the memoir by James Frey, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Charlie Hunnam. The film is expected to release in 2021.
